Surface unwinds & winders

Pyradia offers a complete line of surface unwinds and winders, ideal for handling a wide variety of webs, from dense large paper rolls to delicate tension sensitive textiles, nonwovens and foam materials.

Surface winders can be divided in two categories: Drum surface winder where wound roll weight is either supported on bedrolls or drums, and Linear Displacement winder where it is supported by a central shaft.

Linear Displacement winders are the perfect solution for tension sensitive materials, such as foam, nonwovens, and paper. These winders allow for continuous operation, with airshafts being automatically loaded, contacting the substrate at initial winding position, on the fly transfer and final winding at the secondary position. The secondary winding position moves linearly during roll build-up, keeping pressure constant against the nip roller, independently from product roll weight variations.

3-drum and 2-drum surface winders are generally designed for large and heavy paper rolls. This series of machines are also two positions, automatic cut & transfer, driven surface winders. Roll hardness is controlled on surface winders based on three key factors called TNT, for: Tension of winding web, Nip of the pressure roll and Torque of the winding drums. System operations, including airshaft positioning, cut & transfer sequence, roll position transfer, and roll doffing is fully automatic for continuous operation. 3-drum surface winders offer a smooth transfer between bedrolls positions with accurate tension and package density control over the full roll buid-up.

With over 50 years of experience, extensive process knowledge, modeling software and pilot equipment, Pyradia engineers will analyse your specifications and recommend the ideal production line configuration for optimal process efficiency.
